If you love the great outdoors and want to help preserve Scotland’s natural beauty spots there are lots of ways for you to give up your time and make a positive difference to the environment.
There are full and part time opportunities available and loads of different activities to get involved in:
A conservation placement will allow you to enjoy the usual benefits of a volunteering opportunity but with a few additional perks:
To find or organise a conservational or environmental placement you can search online at the Volunteer Centre Network Scotland website or Young Scot WOW website. The BTCV website has details of various ways to volunteer and the National Trust for Scotland website also has details of voluntary opportunities – both indoors and out.
The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.
To achieve an award each participant must discover a wild place, explore its wildness, conserve - take personal responsibility and share their experiences. The award is delivered through partnerships with youth organisations, schools, clubs, Local Authorities and outdoor centers.
Check out John Muir Award for more information on how to get involved.
