Feis means feast in gaelic but has more recently become associated with a movement of gaelic arts tuition festivals running across Scotland . Feisan nan gaidhael was set up in 1991 and coordinates the organisation of feis across the country, giving thousands of young people the chance to get involved in gaelic arts and music. The feis usually have workshops and classes running throughout the year and also often hire out musical instruments. With forty three feis across Scotland there is bound to be one somewhere near you.

If you want to take your talent to the top there are now many options in Scotland to study traditional music at university or college.
The RSAMD (Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) offers the only honours degree in Scottish traditional music in the world. The piping degree is run alongside the National Piping Centre and students are given opportunities to do placements on traditional music projects across Scotland.
The University of the Highlands and Islands offers a BA Honours Degree in Gaelic and Traditional Music. The course provides one to one music tuition as well as music history, theory and recording and production skills.
Strathclyde University offer a BA Honours in Applied Music and actively encourage a spectrum of genres including traditional and folk.
